Upon entering the museum, the scholars were immediately captivated by the exhibits. From historical photos of China-U.S. cooperation against fascism during World War II to treasured collections such as General Stilwell’s personal items and letters, the group took time to view, listen, and discuss. Following the tour, they viewed documentaries Stilwell and the CBI and Friendship Transcending Five Generations.
According to the group leader, most scholars knew little about General Stilwell before the visit. Through lively English commentary, numerous photos and physical items, and precious video footage, they gained a deeper understanding of his life, especially his love for traditional Chinese culture and Chinese people, the shared history of fighting alongside Chinese during the war, and the profound friendship between China and the U.S. forged during those turbulent years. One scholar remarked, “It’s unique to find a museum in Chongqing named after a foreign military officer. This place brings together war history and the city’s evolving story—an unforgettable visit.” Another Chinese scholar shared after the visit that they hope to play a part in fostering U.S.-China friendship in the future.
